Here are some mistakes you can avoid while washing your car in winters:
1. Using a Car Wash
Hand washing is the best option for cleaning a car with vinyl wrapping, as car washes can be too harsh on the vinyl edges and cause them to peel. It is better to get out a hose and bucket and wash the vinyl wrap by hand.
2. Using High-Pressure Wash
During pressure washing, follow certain protocols to maintain the vinyl wrap on your car. Keep the water pressure below 2000 psi (14 MPa) or 180 °F (80 °C) and when spraying, keep a distance of 1 foot from the vehicle at a perpendicular angle from the wrap.
3. Using the Wrong Cleaning Products
Choose gentle wash products, isopropyl alcohol diluted in water or warm soapy water over harsh chemical products. Oil-based cleaners, engine degreasers or solvents will hinder the quality of your vinyl wrap and harm it.
4. Leaving Difficult Stains to Dry for a Long Time
Wipe away stains immediately. Leaving them for too long can cause some serious damage. Hardened stains – especially bird poop, flattened insects and tree sap are more difficult to remove. For effortless removal, soak the affected area in hot soapy water, rinse that spot and wipe it with a soft cloth.
5. Waxing, Polishing, and Buffing
Don’t buff or regularly polish your car. Vinyl has a natural glossy effect and polishes can damage the car wrap. Buffing can also scratch the vinyl wrap, leaving unattractive marks behind.
